Wearing Dresses for Everyday- Fall/Winter Edition

I typically wear dresses in the spring and summer with denim jackets are on their own. However my closet has a number of dresses appropriate for cooler weather. Should I just wear them on Sundays? I decided to take some of them out of a spin in my daily routines and realized how comfortable and appropriate they are for any given day. Today I am sharing a variety of dresses as well as sharing Jodie (Jtouchofstyle.com) who often inspires me to think creatively with my wardrobe.

I by no means am a minimalist when it comes to clothes but I do try to make sure that if something comes in something most often comes out. I have clothes that were bought last month and clothes that were bought 8 to 10 years ago. Some purchases might have been mistakes or my taste might have changed so I have decided that if I feel like I am forcing myself to wear something, it has to go. Therefore you will see some outfits or parts of outfits on repeat as well as newer pieces either thrifted or not. I do try to be frugal and shop the sales when I purchase retail but I don’t always do.

One and Done

While it’s fun to be creative with your clothes, sometimes it is really nice to be one and done. Here are some dresses that were thrifted that I love because they do not need any extras to be cute or interesting. The textures or extras make them stand out.

The dress below is a recent find at a consignment shop in Chattanooga and I bought it despite missing the belt. I actually think it looks cuter with a contrasting belt and I am looking forward to find a printed belt to pair with it. The dress is Vince Camuto and can be found on Poshmark or Ebay for $50 to $70.

Dress as a Top

I wore my plaid dress recently in this post and have thought about wearing it over leggings but actually didn’t think to wear it over pants as Jodie did. I love how this looks and will have to try with some different colored bottoms. This is a great idea to use with dresses that are a little short or to extend your wardrobe. It was perfect for a cooler day with errands and a sick child at home.

Sweater over Dress

Do you miss your summer or spring dresses during the fall and winter? Just add a sweater and turn your outfit into a “skirt and sweater” look! I’ve done this several times before but never with this longer sweater. I tucked it in a belt to create more flattering proportions. I really like the graphic design in Jodie’s sweater and thinks it pairs beautiful with the fun colors in her dress.

Dress as a Jacket

This is a great trick to get more wear out of your clothes as well as extend the life of a too large or too small button down dress. I especially like this with shirt dresses since I have found that the silhouettes of other button down dresses don’t work as well for me.
