Linen Pants Styled with a Chambray Botton Down
For someone who hadn’t been wearing button-downs for the last few years, I really found a new love for these with my white and my chambray button-downs. I have surprised myself by wearing them in the heat of summer too, but that is probably due to the lightweight cotton they are made of. I had originally planned to wear this to my mom’s doctor appointment, but since it was rescheduled and I was going to take her grocery shopping I decided to still wear it. It was also the perfect overcast morning to take pictures!

Why did I not like button downs before? I guess the fit was never right: I would thrift them either too small or too large and would end up not liking the fit. Now that I have a couple shirts that I enjoy wearing, I have paired them with skirts, over dresses and with pants. This look was inspired by, you guessed it, a photo on Pinterest. I will share that picture at the end of the post.

I told my son that the advantage of taking pictures on an overcast day were numerous. You don’t have to worry about shadows, squinty eyes, harsh light, and having to face in a particular direction. This was an easy 5 minutes blog photo shoot!

What drew my eye to the inspiration picture was the chunky grey necklace since I knew I had something similar. Of course, the classic pairing of chambray with white is appealing and easy to replicate. I added grey sandals since I have only worn them a few times this summer.

I really took advantage of the boys being home this summer to take pictures! Thankfully, I wasn’t trying to shoot pictures of cold weather outfits!

A bientôt!

I feel the same way about button-downs lately. I think the fact that I stopped worrying about what size they are and getting them a little bigger so they are flowy and perfect for our heat is a big factor.
I still have a couple that are smaller, and they work well as layering under other items, but it’s amazing how they feel so constrictive compared to my newer (thrifted) ones.
Love this look,

Exactly! For me it has been finding just the right fit, not worrying about the size.

I have several button up shirts, but they’re polyester. I keep them for the winter and wear them under sweaters. Now, my chambray shirts work overtime! I love them. This is really a cute look, and I think you nailed the inspiration!

I typically don’t do them under sweaters even though I like the look on others. I just had to find the fit I liked and then how I like to style them.

Chambray/denim + white is such a timelessly perfect combination. Glad you found the fit you were looking for – button up shirts can be really tough to get in the right fit!

You did very well. I love the fit of the shirt. It is all about the buttons I think. I hate when they gape. Great combo. x

Excellent inspo recreation, Mireille. Thanks for sharing this post on the Fine-Whatever link-up. I, too, find button-downs a challenge, but I adore them. My strategy is to stealthily pin them at the key stress point to minimize any gaping.
