Layering a Blouse under a Sweater
When I started brainstorming ideas for blog posts from the month of January, different micro trends were mentioned including layering button downs under different pieces in your closet. As you may have noticed, trends and micro trends are really nothing new, they typically cycle an old idea with a new name in an attempt to have us shop more. But quite often, we can look through our closet and find something that fits the trends that appeal to us. Animal prints? We all have them! Brown? We probably own something in brown! Since I am on another shopping break till Feb 1st, I shopped my closet for a new to me look.

I wore this outfit the Friday before Christmas. I had errands to run and some laundry to do. The day stayed under 50 degrees and was windy so a layer was helpful for part of the day. I actually did get a little warm with the sweater and took it off in the afternoon.
I could have used a white or a chambray shirt, but I decided to expand my color palette a little. Since I had recently paired red and teal, I decided to create an outfit with the same color pairing with the difference of this sweater being more aqua than teal.

Both the button down and clutch were thrifted a few years ago. The shirt has actually a pattern on the front panels which added some interest to the combo. I received the heels for a collaboration a year or so ago and these sparkly pants have made an appearance a few times this winter. They are a dressy wide leg that I found easy to wear for any day!

This is not my typical combo, and it took me a few minutes to get used to it when I put it on, but I do like it. It was fun to wear something in a different way and it was festive without being too Christmas-y. I know some of you layer like this all of the time and my question for you is what kind of sweater do you like best over a button down?

I have a few sweaters that have the collar and tails attached so it looks like I’m wearing a button down under it… but I’m really not! I find crewneck sweaters work best if I’m actually pairing a button down with a sweater.

Yes, that is the perfect way to do it: but since I don’t have one of those, I am finding that I like the lighter weights shirts to do this.

I really LOVE how the shirt hangs out under the sweater. IT’s the kind of shirt you don’t think to cover up because of the beautiful pattern, but then again, why not?
Great job playing in your closet,

I totally agree with you on trends and shopping. I like to wear a blouse under av neck sweater and sometimes a tie with it.
mimifce
Oh, a tie with it would be so fun!

I never layered a blouse and a sweater, but that doesn’t have to do with the look, layers are just uncomfortable for me to wear.
That’s a really interesting look with the pattern on the blouse peeking out like that.

It’s probably not my favorite as far as comfort, but the lighter blouse work pretty good for me.

I love the pop of details on the shirt and how you can see them hanging out from underneath the sweater.

Exactly! I have one idea to wear tomorrow with a suede corset over a black chambray. Fun to play with this idea!

I like the way how the blouse underneath kind of elongates the upper body.

Thanks! Yes, the blouse needed a moment on its own! I’ve had it several years and don’t wear it much… I really have been trying to wear all the button downs lately! It’s fun to branch out a little.

Mireille, it is amazing how creative we can get, and what we can find in our closets when we are not shopping. I love your color combination, and the way you styled this outfit. I don’t wear button downs often, but my favorite ways to wear them is with a cardigan or crewneck. Thanks for sharing, and hope you have a good week!

That has been my favorite part of shopping my closet. Trying some new things and then wearing things I forget to wear.

Love the pattern of your blouse! The red and turquoise is such a pretty color combo!

Thanks, Debbie! Turtlenecks always feel restrictive so even sweater turtlenecks have to be loose for me to like. But you live where it is colder, so I am sure they come in handy!
