Spring Trend 2026: Double Denim

The double denim or Canadian tuxedo has been around for a while (since 1951). I have seldom if ever worn 2 blue denim pieces of different washes together, so when I read that it was a spring trend this year, I thought I would try my hand at it. Of course, I had what I needed in my closet and chose my favorite denim skirt to pair with a contrasting denim shirt. I also shared some daily outfits on the blog last year for 2025 spring trends (bohemian dream here, petal pink here and pistachio here). Today’s outfit is the first of 3 trends I will share this year, shopped from my closet, but this month’s Ageless post did combine several of this year’s trends in one look.

I am loving this outfit so much that now I am thinking of other combinations of denim I can create in my closet: I have other denim skirts, but also different types of jeans that I can combine with my two denim shirts (as well as some lighter summer denim tops). The possibilities are endless.

I always smile and laugh with one of the boys makes a comment about taking pictures for me: the younger ones especially think it is silly to take pictures of outfits and share them, but I really find joy in wearing something that makes me smile. There are enough stressors in life and things that can cause anxiety, that it is nice to find joy in silly things. Yes, my faith is more important than my daily pictures and my outfits, but sharing inspiration brings a smile to my face and is a nice hobby!

Feeling good in what I wear gives me a more positive outlook on my day. It’s called dopamine dressing: it boosts your mood! It brings you up instead of bringing you down. I know that my 80 year old mom feels the same way: when she is having a good day and is wearing an outfit she enjoys, it brings her up! So let’s continue to get dressed in outfits that boost our moods!

Shoes are new (Walmart, I had to size down so they wouldn’t slip off my feet), tote was thrifted last year, denim shirt is thrifted and the belt came with a different skirt. I love all the raffia details in this outfit: it really gives it a spring vibe.

A bientôt!

Springtime also is Denim/jeans-time I think. And you can wear them at almost every occasion. Looks really good on you dear Mireille. I also bought some jeans outfits recently.
Have a good time and all the best

It’s exactly how you say it! Most people around me don’t understand the blog thing. Who cares. You know that I never was a denim fan, but more and more in the past years, but I always loved double denim. This is a outfit that would be a favourite of me. Fabulous! The blouse is a beautiful wash and the skirt perfect!

This is a very nice outfit, indeed. Because the top and the skirt are of different shades, it adds another dimention. Love your accessories, too. Anna

I think double denim looks fabulous when it’s done right and you’ve hit the nail on the head with this outfit, Mireille! You look stunning and I think the addition of that belt is the piece de resistance! I love it!
And I totally agree about dopamine dressing—it’s so important to wear clothes that make you happy!

The shoes… I am in the process of breaking them in: I had to size down so they wouldn’t slip off my foot which means they are a little tight and rub a bit. Right now I wear them for short amounts of time and they are fine. Hoping that they will soften a little for me.

Great double denim outfit, Mireille! I love the raffia details, they bring the outfit right into spring. The Mary janes are so cute. I am seeing various types of woven ones everywhere. I know how you feel about taking pictures of your outfits. It is a creative outlet for me, and I enjoy it. It is nice to have a hobby that helps you to de-stress. Hope you enjoy the rest of the week, and thanks for sharing!

I was very surprised how much I liked this outfit. I think it’s the addition of all of the accessories.

The double denium does look nice. It’s the shoes that drew my attention. Love them and Wal-Mart is where I do most of my clothes/shoe shopping. I go to the thrift stores for picture frames, dishes and jeans as well.
    All the best,
    Debra

The shoes have been really a fun pair to have but I have to wear them for short amounts of time until I break them in all the way.
