Downtown Greenville, SC -

A few weeks ago, we headed to Greenville to bring my 15 year old to a music camp that was taking place on the campus of Furman University. By the way, that is one beautiful campus! His two brothers and I dropped him off on a Thursday afternoon and headed downtown to walk around along the river. I had not expected the high heat and humidity as I hadn’t checked the forecast, so we probably spent about an hour or so walking around before heading to our hotel to cool off.

We parked near the Grand Bohemian Lodge which overlooks the Reedy River and is just a short walk for Falls Park. There were both a paid parking lot and some parking on the street. Armed with our water bottles, we set off the explore the area.

Since it had rained some in the past few weeks, the river flowed and the waterfalls were pretty. We did walk down closer, but didn’t sit long as it was so hot.

There are quite a few hotels along the river as well as businesses. The building below used to be a coach factory in the 1850s. It was the largest carriage factory south of the Potomac. When the automobile industry made its debut and with its success, the building was sold to Eugenia Duke and became a mayonnaise factory. It became vacant in 1958 and is now used as a pavilion.

There were several fountains above on the other bank of the river and we enjoyed their uniqueness. Too bad we couldn’t cool off in them!

I thought that downtown Greenville was a beautiful area to visit. I would really enjoy it in the fall or spring when it is cooler. It is very picturesque with trees, sculptures, beautiful buildings and some shops.

Greenville looks like such a beautiful place to explore! The river and waterfalls are so pretty, and I love all the history behind the old carriage factory. I’m with you though—I’d much rather explore in the cooler fall weather than that heat and humidity!
