Beating the Heat in Flowy Pants

While you would think I beat the heat in this outfit with my flowy pants and cute outfit, I can tell you right away that the heat beat me our first day in Greenville, SC last month. I thought that packing these pants with a tank would keep me cool, but what I learned was that I should have packed a couple of dresses with no waistline so that I would sweat through all of my clothes. It was 100 degrees with around 40% humidity and it was hot and unpleasant. However, we did come across some beautiful spots, so with water bottles at the ready, we did explore a little bit of the river area in downtown Greenville after dropping off my son at Furman University for a camp.

My idea was that these pants would keep my legs protected from the sun and would keep them somewhat cool, but I didn’t take into account that a fitted tank and a waistband would not allow airflow. I did feel really cute in my outfit and I was so glad for the addition of my newly thrifted crinkly vest for a little sun protection.

We spent a lot of time looking for shade while out and about. These first few pictures were taken on the campus of Furman University which is a beautiful campus (it is a private university). My 15 year old participated in a barbershop summer 3 day workshop camp and had the time of his life. The camp ended with a concert where the campers sang as well as some nationally acclaimed barbershop quartets. We drove back that last night and arrived home at 1 am. We were tired, but ready to be home.

I realized on this trip that my accessories did not bother me in the heat at all. Bracelets are a great way to accessorize in the summer especially if they are not heavy. I like to create different colorful stacks matching my outfits. The cute little crochet sunflower was a find while thrifting in Chattanooga. One of the thrift stores had a display that from a local person.

This is the Medusa tree in downtown Greenville. This picture makes me laugh because it makes me look like I am on stilts. Weird camera perception, but it makes for a fun picture. I always keep this hat in my car for sun protection and I was very glad for it on this day. Since I really do not use any skincare products on my face, I try to keep my face shaded most of the time when I am out and about.
