Non Jacket Fall Layers with the Sunday Showcase Link Up
Ideas for blog posts come to me in different ways and this one came from making a reel for the #wearitwednesday gals a couple weeks ago about skirts. It also happened on a day where the morning was really cool at 53 degrees and a light layer was needed for a couple of hours. Everyone knows to add a denim jacket to make a outfit fall worthy but what about other toppers? I looked at my closet and pulled out 4 pieces I thought would provide interest and a little warmth for cool but not cold fall days and here are my non jacket fall layers.
Here is my original outfit: my beloved skirt I found in New Orleans featured in this post, my favorite pair of tan booties and a graphic tee. I pulled the green from the skirt with the earrings.
I have been loving my leather and embroidered purse from IdeasValyen and tried it here as a shoulder bag. This purse is such nice quality and so versatile. Notice how the colors of the skirts are repeated in the purse?
Long faux crochet cardigan/duster
This is one of my favorite pieces to pull when it is cool but not hot. The cream color goes with everything and the material is stretchy. My best friend made it and it can be worn several ways as it is actually a wrap cardigan.
Caite and Kyla embroidered shirt
A little subtle print mixing in this particular combination with the cream windowpane in the Caite and Kyla top. I have yet to buy one of their pieces retail as I find it more affordable to look for pieces 2nd hand on Poshmark. 4 pieces were added to my closet last year (2 button downs, a jacket and a short sleeve blouse) and I do not feel the need to have more. I really love the special embroidery details.
Isn’t the embroidery on the back of this button down perfect with the skirt? This was my 2nd favorite topper with this and I will be sure to wear this exact outfit in real life. I do love my Caite and Kyla Poshmark finds!
Chambray Shirt
My chambray button down is too light to be considered a jacket so I added it to the mix. It is not my favorite look (I might like it better if I tied it as the skirt is voluminous and the shirt not fitted) but it is a practical look. It provides warmth and is still cute.
Burgundy Waterfall Cardigan
Ah, the old burgundy cardigan that I just can’t seem to get rid of. I love the color, the waterfall style and the 3/4 sleeves. Nobody needs to know it has a couple small holes!

Mireille, the skirt is stunning, and all the toppers looks great with it. But the Caite and Kyla shirt knocks it out of the park. Absolutely gorgeous! And a great post. Love seeing all the topper options.

Yes, the embroidered shirt is a great soft print mix with it.
Mica Away From The Blue
This is such a gorgeous maxi skirt and as you’ve shown here it layers so well! I love the chambray shirt with it but I think the burgundy cardigan is such a good colour combination with it!
Thanks for your link up 🙂 Hope you had a lovely weekend 🙂

Thanks, Mica! The long weekend was amazing, hubby and I went to Costa Rica for 5 days. Now I am trying to adjust to being back and him back at work.

Bravo, bravo Mireille. That’s the way to make the outfits more unique. I mean, I love a denim jacket too, but sometimes I see it so much lately, that I just yearn for some variety.
As for the holes in the cardigan, you know I have an idea, right?? You could take embroidery thread and creat little “patches” with it covering those holes and then in a couple of other places.
In fact, I would do that for you if you want??
XOXO

If the little holes actually get more noticeable, I may take you up on that offer. Right now only I know they are there.

Oh, how I love that skirt, Mireille! It is so doggone fabulous! I love all of these toppers and think the faux crochet duster is the winner. I do like the burgundy with it, too! I didn’t even realize where your purse ended and your skirt started! How do your embroidered boots look with it?

I know, that purse was just the perfect match. I believe you are right, I need to try my booties with it.

So many great ways to style this beautiful skirt! My favorite is the Caitie and Kyla shirt, but all work well! With the beautiful colors on the skirt I can see so many more options too. What a great buy that was!

All great options…but the embroidered shirt is so stunning, it steals the show of this post!

I do agree. It was made for it.

Oooh Mireille, this skirt is magnificent! You could do a million more layering tricks with it with all of its beautiful patterns and striking colors. I love it! That embroidered shirt is super fun and really works well with the skirt. I think that is my favorite look of all the ones you shared. Fun post!

Thanks, Shelbee! The Caite and Kyla shirt was not something I would have picked first for it but like you I ended up really liking it with it.
Rena
Mireille,
All four styling ideas are wonderful and a nice alternative to a denim jacket.

Exactly… I always tend to go for the jackets so these are nice for a change.

Thanks, Lucy! I have been cleaning my closet and deciding what is worthy of taking space and this skirt won’t be going anywhere for years to come.
