My Style in 5 Words
After reading KellyAnn’s (ThisBlondeShoppingBag) post about defining your style, I thought it would be fun to think about which 5 words came to my mind when I thought about my style. These are the first words that popped in my mind and I feel like they do define what I enjoy wearing and what is me! I used example of some of my favorite outfits of the past year to examplify what those words mean to me. And here is is the last post I wrote about my style is what in April 2020. Back then, I defined my signature style as being fun with a twist (still relevant), including statement earrings and fun shoes. While those are still true and I would wear those outfits (I think I have all of the pieces minus 2 tops), I think today’s words are more specific and helpful when shopping for new clothes (retail or thrifted).
Colorful
While I do enjoy wearing neutral outfits in creams, blacks and whites, I really am drawn to the colorful pieces in my closet.
That skirt above is my favorite! If you remember, I found it in a little shop in New Orleans and have worn it many times. Royal blue paired with that kimono is probably one of my favorite color combination.
Another favorite is fuschia and I cannot wait to hear my birthday/anniversary dress again (see here and here).
Practical
While on vacation and when I go on hikes, I still like to have a little style. I was surprised how much I love my striped shirt with the sand camo pants and I often pair my joggers with colorful accessories or tops to make a athleisure look more interesting.
Touch of Boho
I love embroidery, flowy dresses and skirts, kimonos and my cowboy boots. I may not wear these too often but when I do, I really love my outfits and they feel like me.
Fun
I like to put a twist on some of my outfits. That can be done with shoes, accessories or a mix print! It can be done by acting silly, finding a fun piece of clothing or choose to wear a particular color.
Textured
The last couple of months, I have been drawn to textures! Velvet, leather, faux fur… I want to wear them.
I really have been reaching for pieces that have texture and add interest to my outfits lately and that is probably why so many of my December purchases fit that bill. I love how the textured feel or look of a piece make an outfit special.

These are all such great words to help define your style. While I like colorful pieces too I tend to like plain unpatterend pieces best. You have so many beautiful photos here and I think your style does shine through with the examples you gave.

Colorful is one of my 5 style words, too. Love the idea of comparing outfits to the style words and seeing how they match up. Seeing how your outfits resonate with the style words is very interesting!

I really need to keep the words in mind when buying something.

Oh, that Kellyann! I have been thinking long and hard about that post, too! You would think, at my age, I’d have it figured out! I think your definitive words are really good at narrowing down your style.

It helps me with my shopping to figure out what my style is. It still sometimes want things that don’t feel as much me. I think it is good to try different things but if you are spending bigger dollars I would not experiment too much in case it is a purchase you regret. That is when thrifting comes in very handy.

Yes! These all describe your style most definitely. I think one of mine would have to be Color too. 🙂

What a great idea to find several words to describe your style instead of just 1-2. It can be hard to confine ourselves to so few. I would agree with all of your words! You have great style!

Yes: using more really helped and made more sense. I really like a little bit of everything but I feel like me the most in these outfits.

I really need to do this… I feel out of all of these I am practical and texture. I am more of a neutrals gal than colors, tho. You have some really adorable outfits with a punch of color, tho!!

I would have said ‘colorful’ and ‘fun’ but all five of these adjectives are accurate. I love your great dresses. Such pretty prints and colors with the perfect amount of boho mixed in. You have a darling sense of style.
mimifce
Thanks, Leslie! I have been really into getting dresses lately but having worn them as much the past month or so.

I love that you include the word FUN as part of your style. I think too many women as they get older forget that word and think we have to be so serious about our clothing.
