Black and Brown Outfits for Summer
You don’t typically think of black and brown outfits for summer, but I was inspired last month to see if I could create 5 outfits from my closet using those colors. I was on a neutral kick and felt like I hadn’t worn either color in a while. To give the combination more of a summer feel, I added white accessories or pieces to add a contrast. I am always amazed how many new outfits I can create when I put my mind to it and sometimes wonder why I am still tempted to shop. Maybe because shopping is fun and an activity I enjoy on my own as a special treat! I am excited for you to get more inspiration from Jodie so check out her blog post here!
Farmer’s Market Look
I love this kimono which I bought on Amazon several years ago. I am pretty sure I have worn it in a similar manner a couple of years ago. Well, I am wrong, I wore it with something similar a couple months ago: it’s the first picture in this post: I am wearing it with white wide leg jeans. I actually forgot about those jeans probably because it is too hot to wear jeans in summer here.
Leopard Skirt and Tank
I am loving my tank and skirts outfits this summer and I hadn’t worn this skirt yet this year, so it was a perfect outfit for a Monday of errands. .
Brown Accessories for a Black and White Outfit
These are not my favorite shorts anymore as the fit is not to my liking anymore and the color is not as white as they used to be. I replaced them a couple of weeks after this picture. I am so glad I picked these brown sandals this summer since I wear them at least once or twice a week.
Black dress and Brown Snakeskin Sneakers
And to think I was going to donate this dress! I have now worn it twice this summer and will make sure to rotate it in year round. So versatile and the gathering at the waist is flattering. My husband was funny when I wore this dress “what’s up with the black”! I told him about my idea for a post and to wear something different and he replied “but it’s summer”. Time to debunk the theory that certain colors can’t be worn at certain times of the year.
Thrifted Brown Dress with Crochet Details
I cannot repeat it enough: I thrifted the best dresses this year. This one was from Uptown Cheapskate at the end of winter and it is one of my favorite (see it first here). I added some striped sandals and a white belt to summer-ize it a little more since the print is more fall-ish.

Combining brown and black is hard enough for me in fall; to do it in such summer looks, hats off to you! Clearly starting with leopard or another print is a good idea, but I also really liked the combination of black and white with brown accessories. Good inspiration in this post!

Thanks, Sally! I think it really also depends of the cut of the dresses/skirts which makes them more appropriate for the different seasons.

Oh, that black dress gives me an idea to add elastic to one that I have. I may not wear black much, but it’s one of those colors that can be put to good use. And this was a fun challenge.

I really don’t have enough brown in my wardrobe but the pieces you have look so good on you, especially that fun duster in the first outfit! I have a little leopard print skirt I like wearing black with, something about black and leopard just seems so right to me! these are all lovely neutral otufits 🙂
