What to do when it is hot in Greenville, SC
It was really hot and humid when we visited Greenville which I had not expected because I had not looked at the forecast. We had weather in the mid 80s in Atlanta, but as we got closer we got to Greenville, the temperatures hovered and stayed around 100. Because of that, I chose activities for our full day that would keep us cool and mostly indoors. It made our day a little more expensive, but we had a great time.
Used Bookstore

I was so impressed with this bookstore. It was large, well organized, well staffed and the prices were really good. We did not spend a lot of time here, but it would be a really fun place to browse in longer.
Greenville, Zoo
I added the zoo even though I felt it was so small that I would not visit it again. Since it was inexpensive in comparison to other zoos and could be nice if you had small children, I do mention it. We went right at the opening at 9 am so it wasn’t so hot and there was shade and some misters to cool off.
Escape Room

I had never been to an escape room so this was a really fun experience. There are several escape rooms to choose from at each location and a couple of different ones around Greenville. It was a little less than $100 for the 3 of us. We managed to escape with a couple minutes to spare but only because we received several clues!
Dave and Buster’s
My son had some credits left from a couple years ago, so after watching a movie, we headed to the nearby Dave and Buster’s and played a few games. It was fun!
Go to a Movie
There are several nice movie theaters in Greenville. We chose the one that showed the movie we wanted to see around the time we wanted. We watched “the Young Washington”.
Get a Carwash
Papa Bear has several locations around Greenville and it is the best car wash I have ever had. The car came out nice and dry and clean. The property looked really fun with the Papa Bear theme and the car wash tunnel was a fun experience with all of the lights. It would be really fun for younger kids too!

I definitely want to do another one and see if I get better at thinking outside the box.

Well, my hubby suggested this particular carwash as he is in the carwash industry and it did not disappoint.

Sounds like you had a jam packed time working around the heat and humidity . I always seem to find a treasure in a second hand book shop. You seemed to find something for everyone in the family.

I was not very good at figuring out things: you definitely have to look for the non obvious!

Smart thinking: when it’s very hot going somewhere with airconditioning is the best way to have a nice day, I thik.

Yes! That heat was way worse than what we have in Georgia and even Arizona in my opinion.

What a great roundup! When the temperatures soar, it’s always nice to have a few indoor options mixed in with cool treats and shopping. Your suggestions work well for lots of different locations!

Yes! They would work in a lot of cities!

We did an escape room for the boys’ birthdays years ago. I went in with the youger group and we could NOT get out! LOL It looks like you found a lot of fun things to do while staying out of the heat. We are beginning a 10 day road trip from NY to FL on Monday and it’s going to just get hotter and hotter the further south we drive so I’m hoping we can find some fun adventures that aren’t too hot! We are North Country folks and don’t acclimate to the heat very well. LOL Thanks for sharing these activity ideas!

Our outings made our weekend a lot more expensive but it helped that it was only me and 2 kids vs the whole family.

Oh, I bet it was hot and HUMID. I have only been to Charleston, SC and it was miserable in the summer. Looks like you braved the heat well and found some fun things to do. Never heard of Papa Bear car washes. We have something called Mister and it does a fair job. What did you guys think of Young Washington? We gave it a 6, I think. Found it interesting that Washington was associated with the British Army before become the Commander of the US Army.

I thought it was well done. I really didn’t know much of the history of him prior to him becoming president so I thought it was interesting.
