Hike at Pine Log Creek Trailhead

It was December 29 and while most of my family was recovering from a nasty cold or the flu, I did not relish the idea of staying indoors despite the cooler day. It felt nice and brisk, the sun was shining and while we didn’t want anyone in the cold air, I needed to get out. I walked 3 miles with my friend that morning, but the afternoon was beautiful, so I posted on our gals’ running group-me thread to see if anyone was interested to hike a new to me trail. One of the gals I hadn’t seen in a year responded, so I picked her up and we headed to Pine Log Creek Trailhead in Rydall (kind of in the middle of nowhere) about 30 minutes from the house.

We ended up walking a total of a little over 4 miles, to the quarry and back. It was a good time to enjoy the outdoors, catch up and discuss different things. The fresh air felt wonderful. We both have children close in age.

We had a good laugh as we went off trail by mistake, but realized we were not walking on a real trail (it was a very thin, steep path that we were not sure we would be able to come down from without sliding on our bums). Thankfully, we turned around and got back on the correct path to the quarry.

I am hoping to bring the boys here this spring with a picnic: there is a picnic table by the quarry and several benches on the trail. The quarry and lake make for a great destination for a hike and the coming back was not difficult at all. The sun setting made it very picturesque and I was so glad I reached out to see if anyone would join me. I wouldn’t have gone on my own (I don’t hike solo), but it would have been sad to miss this opportunity!

A bientôt!
