Blue Dress for a Civil War Fort Tour

I originally planned to take pictures of this outfit on the beach but as things usually go on a vacation, plans change and I decided this would be an outfit that would be comfortable even for a tour of a fort. You will learn more about our visit to Old Fort Jackson this Wednesday so today will focus on my outfit! I ordered this dress in two colors from Target after seeing a couple bloggers share it (Andrea from Living On Cloud Nine has it in this blue color and Carrie from A Simple Lovely Life shared it in the peach) and kept the blue as I felt the peach…

Little Tybee Island Tour with Sundial Charters

One of the reasons that I like to sometimes find very budget friendly or free lodging when we travel is so that we may enjoy a more expensive excursion that we would usually not budget in. This past weekend, our family had a very short mini vacation in Savannah/Tybee Island and we used the last of our hotel points to book two rooms for two nights. Since we were limited on points, we ended up booking our rooms at the Double Tree by Hilton by the Savannah airport. The rooms were spacious with a little living room area and the complimentary breakfast (for Diamond Members) was perfect to start the…

Brights from Day to Night with the Ageless Style Link Up

After realizing that I really liked Old Navy’s pixie ankle pants, I went online and ordered 3 more pairs including this bright straight leg pair. I went for patterns, color and shape and it was nice to add a pair that was not skinny pants to my closet. These are both real life outfits which is what I usually share on my blog. Brights for Day I went really colorful with this outfit that I wore taking my oldest to the eye doctor at Target. We found this wall on the way back home and I left the car running so we could grab a few photos. I wouldn’t have…

Inspired by a Pair of Earrings

This blog post and outfit combines two ideas: I wanted to showcase this light weight jacket I have had for about 15 years and wanted to find a way to combine orange and pink in an outfit like in these earrings. You may remember the earrings from my Monday post a few weeks ago (shorts and kimono) and that is when I decided to shop my closet to create a new to me outfit. This pretty “Paris” jacket just made its way back to my closet after I lent it to my mom for a few years. I do not remember when I bought it but if you scroll down,…

    Picketts Mill Historic Site

Last Friday brought us to a new historic site 30 minutes from the house. I sure am loving finding these places nearby. I took the 3 younger boys and my neighbor/friend and her daughter and we packed a lunch to enjoy on our hike. “Pickett’s Mill is one of the best preserved Civil War battlefields in the nation. Visitors can travel roads used by Federal and Confederate troops, see earthworks constructed by these men, and walk through the same ravine where hundreds died. An authentic 1800s pioneer cabin is furnished and open for tours during certain events. On May 27, 1864, the Federal Army, having been stopped in its advance…

June Sunday Showcase: Dressed up Tunic for Summer and Link Up

For this month’s showcase, Ada (Elegance and Mommyhood) and I are dressing up our tunics. I think both of our tunics were advertised as dresses but for modesty’s sake we both wear them as tunics with leggings under them. Mine is from Old Navy and is about 3 years old but I have only worn it about 3 times usually for special occasions such as my anniversary date with my husband to a winery (here) and an award ceremony for my son. Each time I have dressed it up with pretty sandals. This whole outfit is shopped from my closet and every single piece apart from the clutch is several…

My Haircut: Low Maintenance and Easy

By now you all know how low maintenance I am as far as make up and hair goes: I rarely wear makeup and only use chapstick and gloss daily and I really don’t do much with my hair. I have had different haircuts over the years and have tried growing out my hair a few times but I always come back to this haircut. Short bob with a fun cut in the back. I only have to blow dry it after a wash and then just comb it every morning. In today’s post I include 2 sets of pictures taken after my haircuts, probably 5 months apart. Looking at these…

New Echota Cherokee Capital State Historic Site

A couple of months ago, I decided to get the annual pass for the Historic Sites in Georgia as there are many we haven’t visited yet and quite a few within an hour drive. So this past Sunday after church, we stopped by the New Echota Cherokee Captital Historic site. The land and town was the site of the Cherokee National capital from 1825 to 1838 (all my information is from the flyer for the self guided tour). After the removal of the Cherokee tribes the town disappeared and the land was turned into farmland. In the early 1950s the land was purchased by some local citizens and deeded to…

    Summer Shorts and Kimono

A kimono with shorts is by no means a new idea! However, I wanted to show you how shopping your closet and updated a few items on a budget could help you create some new outfits. Last month, I decided to update my tank tops: after a few years, they had lost shape and my white ones were not so white anymore. I went onto the Target website and tried two styles and ended up liking these. I bought 4 tanks, this red/orange one, an olive one and then basic black and white. For $5 they can’t be beat especially that they were 5% off (and I used my Target…

    Summer Plans

Well, the day has come, the school year is now officially over and 2 months of summer vacation looms ahead! While the boys and I love having a time with really fixed schedules, we do not function well with no directions or plans so we do have some plans for the summer even if they do not include any fun trips abroad. We will have days with structured plans but also days with nothing on the agenda. Summer Camps For the first time, every one will be involved in some type of camp for part of the summer. My oldest is doing a month long tennis camp, the 10 year…
