Denim Jackets: Styling a Variety of Silhouettes

Everyone has a denim jacket, but nowadays, you can find denim jackets in a variety of silhouettes just as you can find different styles and cuts of denim jeans. Today, I am styling four different jackets from my closet, but I am still on the lookout for a short sleeve denim jacket (I may cut the sleeves of a thrifted long sleeve one if I find a cut I like). Three out of 4 of these were thrifted and my oldest is the non-thrifted classic one from Target. Jodie is also sharing some denim jackets with different silhouettes and I cannot wait to see how she styled them. Here is her post!

Denim Shrug

When I thrifted this little denim shrug, it had long sleeves which were quite long. After debating for a day or two, I decided that I would wear it more if it had short sleeves, so I cut them. The first look was a fun outfit to wear despite it being a little cold for it. I like the idea of a denim shrug because it is lighter than a full jacket, but still provides coverage (think sleeveless tops and dresses) and interest. I wore it again with yellow a couple weeks later for church since it is a halter dress and I cover up in church.

Denim Fitted Dress as a Denim Jacket

I typically wear this dress as a jacket as if fit very close to the body. I wore this outfit to a funeral a few weeks ago when we had a cold spell. I think of it as a denim trench which makes it easier to style.

Classic Denim Jacket

This is an older denim jacket in a classic fit I got from Target some years ago. I do have several denim jackets in different colors from white to yellow and different shades of denim. They all are here to stay in my closet as they never go out of style. Some years, I wear them more than other years and quite often they are worn in spring over a dress. I had fun with this outfit and the different stripes: it has been fun to add scarves to my outfits on cool spring days and I am practicing different ways to tie them.

Denim Bomber

I think that denim jackets are pretty timeless, but if you want an updated look, you can look for a different fit just as you do with your jeans. You may want an oversized fit or a jacket that has puffed sleeves. You may want one that you switch the sleeves for sweatshirt sleeves or crochet sleeves (if you can sew). Get creative in your wardrobe or be on the lookout when you are thrifting: there are some fun pieces out there. I was unsure about this bomber jacket when I was thrifting because I really didn’t need another jacket, but the style caught my eye. I textet Jodie to ask her if I should get it. As you can tell, her answer was yes and I have not regretted it. I have worn it a number of times this winter. The body is lined with Sherpa (not the sleeves) which is great on colder days and for fall and winter.

So, are all of your denim jackets in a classic fit or do you have a little variety in your silhouettes?
