Styling a Heart Scarf for Valentine’s and Beyond

I do not wear holiday theme pieces much unless it is a subtle nod to that holiday, whether by a classy design or by a color scheme. However, this fun and cozy scarf from Valerie’s Avenue is a great scarf for all winter long, and today, I am sharing 4 ways you can wear it. The possibilities are endless. Don’t think too much about my exact items (most are thrifted), but more of the combination and style of the pieces. This scarf also come in red and cream and in a multi color striped pattern. I met up with Yenni at a nearby French bakery for some treats and photos…

    Styling Athleisure for Winter

A couple weeks ago, during the ice/snow storm that came across the US, our regular church services were cancelled for shorter versions that we have in the absence of our priest (who drives weekly from South Carolina), so we decided to stay home. On Saturday, one of the boys had a touch of the stomach flu (thankfully it lasted only about 12 hours), and my husband wasn’t feeling well. On Sunday, we woke up to some light ice in the trees and on some surfaces, but it melted during the day. I had planned a cozy outfit and decided to share how I wear athleisure-wear nowadays in a styled and…

Wearing a Jacket as a Top

As I shopped my closet for the past month and a half, I did my best to rotate in some of my medium weight toppers because I sure have a lot to choose from. For some reason, I am always tempted to add jackets to my closet, weather they are denim, plaid, or anything else. I guess I love a third piece! So my goal was to wear them all and one of the ways I did that was to wear a few of them as a top instead of as a jacket. I did wear a long sleeve Halftee under for extra warmth and comfort (MIREILLE20 for 20% off…

A Simple Outfit for a Visit to the Biltmore Estate

We visit the Biltmore Estate at the beginning of the month as a last fun overnight trip before school was back in session. We stayed at a Hilton embassy suites in downtown Asheville which was just a few minutes for the Biltmore. I really liked the size of our rooms (we usually book two rooms) and these being suites, we had a lot of space. The two oldest typically share one room and my husband and I share a room with the two youngest. We were able to use our hotel points, so that was nice after a very spendy December. The Biltmore is also not a budget friendly place…

    Favorite January Outfits

Most of the outfits on the blog are outfits I wore on a weekday or for church. Sometimes I get a little more creative in my closet and share an outfit that I do not end up wearing, especially when I share how to wear something several ways. Today, I wanted to share some of my favorite daily outfits from January. I really do enjoy putting together outfits in the colder months because it allows me to play with textures and layers. Navy I love how I finding unique pieces while thrifting. The dress on the left is a Vince Camuto dress I thrifted in Chattanooga without the belt and…

Tweed with the Ageless Style Link Up

It was my turn to choose a theme for the month of January, and as I was putting together some outfits to wear one week in November, I thought it was time to wear this skirt again. While I have seen many tweed jackets while thrifting and some really cute ones, I have never brought any home, maybe because I really don’t need another jacket especially one that I might not wear as often as my others. However, I really do like this tweed mini skirt I have had for several years even if I don’t wear it often. I usually wear it about twice each winter (I shared it…

Layering a Blouse under a Sweater

When I started brainstorming ideas for blog posts from the month of January,  different micro trends were mentioned including layering button downs under different pieces in your closet. As you may have noticed, trends and micro trends are really nothing new, they typically cycle an old idea with a new name in an attempt to have us shop more. But quite often, we can look through our closet and find something that fits the trends that appeal to us. Animal prints? We all have them! Brown? We probably own something in brown! Since I am on another shopping break till Feb 1st, I shopped my closet for a new to…

Time for a Repeat Outfit: Denim and Vest

Sometimes, an outfit is so good, you have to repeat it. Last month, we took an overnight trip to North Georgia and I decided to wear this outfit which I wore exactly in the same manner (minus the shoes) last January (here). The outfit is second all the way minus the earrings. It is one of those outfits that thanks to the neutral tones of it makes me feel put together while being really cozy thanks to the fuzzy vest. When we arrived at the Brasstown Valley Resort, we checked in and dropped our bags and the boys and I then went for a walk. We did not cover the…

    3 Thrifted Jackets for Winter

One of my goals this winter was to find a red coat as I had donated the one I had owned for years last year. It wasn’t my style anymore as it was more of an oversized fit and I was ready to part with it. With that goal in mind, I went thrifting one day in December. I have this love for layers even though it doesn’t stay cold very long here. Yes, we do wake up with temperatures in the teens sometimes, but it usually warms up to the 30s or even 50s that same day. Of course, we do have some days that it stays cold all…

Restyling my Rust Skirt for Winter

I may like to wear some fun outfits, but I also enjoy wearing a simple outfit too!  I wore this skirt this fall for a date look on my anniversary trip and knew I wanted to wear it again in the winter! I actually wore it on a cold fall afternoon a couple weeks ago, and decided to take advantage of of slow traffic downtown caused by a train on the tracks to take pictures outside the building of the Western museum. I went for a simple look wearing a nice knit sweater from Loft my friend gave me recently, and chose my black boots to reflect the black in…
