    Noccalula Falls, Alabama

A couple weekends ago, we spent a long weekend in Alabama. As per usual, I had some outings in mind and one of them was Noccalula Falls. This waterfall cascades over 90 feets into a ravine. There is a 9 foot stature of  Cherokee Princess Noccalula at the top of the falls who according to legend plunged to her death instead of marrying someone whom her father wanted her to marry. Now, Alabama has been in a state of drought for the past couple of months so the sight we were expecting of a beautiful waterfall was not what we saw. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. If…

    Capsule wardrobe: white jeans outfits

Last week, I shared a colorful fall capsule wardrobe that I thought would be great to create different fun outfits with a limited number of pieces. Here are some outifts that I came up with. I could create more by changing out the shoes and adding a different scarf to some of them. As a reminder, here are the tops I chose for the capsule wardrobe (I took pictures with 3 of these tops). Floral blouse The floral blouse is a nice contrast to the white jeans. I wore it on a nice fall day with my blush slip on sneakers. I could easily switch them for the booties. Add…

    Fall decor on a budget

Since I am trying to be thrifty this fall, especially for this month of October, I decided to see what I could do to add a little to my fall decor to welcome fall in. I started with the items I already had. My little Target bird and my letter board adorn my mantle. I know sand and seashells are not fall decor but sorry, not sorry, they are a sweet reminder of our summer trip to Spain and France this summer. My buffet table behind the couch displays this fall sign I found last year at Hobby Lobby and a few pumpkins from Target dollar spot (also old). I…

    Horse Pens 40, Alabama

We spent our mini fall break at our uncle’s lakehouse! He is always so hospitable and we enjoy visiting him and finding new places to discover nearby. My youngest is at the age of where it is easier for us if we are on the go when in a place like that so one of the places he suggested we visit was Horse Pens 40. This outdoor nature park is privately owned (it was $8 for ages 10 and up) and is well known by rock climbers as a bouldering sites. It was used at times by native americans to corral horses, by the confederate army to store…

    Colorful Capsule Wardrobe for Fall

I was inspired by Tanya from 50 is not old to think about which items I would use in my closet to create a capsule fall wardrobe. This is a wardrobe that I could see myself taking for a 2 week fall vacation in Europe or somewhere where the weather gets cool in the fall but not especially cold. While most items in a capsule warbrobe should be classic, I decided to pull some color with several items. I could see these working here in Georgia till at least the end of November. As you will see in the next three posts, all of the pieces work well together! Here…

    A day in my life

I always find it interesting to get a glimpse of other people’s life. What do we have in common, what do we do differently? So today I am sharing a typical day in my life. As with travel, vacations and budget, I do like to be organized in my day to day life, so every evening I list what I would like to accomplish the following day such as errands, appointments (we do not have many of those), chores, blog related things as well as foods to make (snacks and dinner). 6:00 Wake up, prep boy #2 and 3 lunches 6:20 Get boy #2 and 3 up, breakfast and to…

    River rafting

One of the things I wanted to do before the weather turns cold is go down the Etowah river with my family. We usually do it a few times a year since one of the drop offs is down the road from our house and it is a fun, free afternoon activity to do as a family. The adventure is a little different every time even though we always do the same stretch of the river. We bought 2 Seahawk 4 rafts last summer on Amazon and haved used them probably 10 times now. It looks like they have gone up in price but we purchased them for $80 each.…

Inspired by Shelly at The Queen in Between

I have been passing the cotton fields for the past 2 weeks and have been worried that the cotton would be gone before I would be able to shoot an outfit at sunset but my son and I made it happen. Then the following evening we went back and took some family pictures. I actually thought at first that they were soybean fields when I took pictures there in my white dress but no, cotton it is! Today’s outfit is a copy cat outfit of an outfit Shelly shared on her blog last week. I love Shelly’s blog and she has inspired some of my outifts numerous times. Prior to…

No spend month: how to be successful

You often see bloggers or Instagrammers mentioning they are doing a no spend or no shopping month. It probably means something slightly different for each individual but this is what it means for me. Mireille’s no spend month Refrain from spending UNECESSARY money: no clothes shopping no fun Amazon shopping no new decor Be thrifty: create budget meals and menu eat in (we actually barely ever eat out unless we are on vacation) make snacks as much as possible Being successful I like to be accountable so I downloaded a calendar app so I can track my spend/no spend days Look at your calendar: what is coming up? Plan accordingly!…

    Why make traveling a priority?

As you might have noticed with my blog in the past 6 months since I have been writing, our family makes vacations and traveling a priority. Why, you might ask, do we sacrifice in certain areas to make this possible. Here are some reasons why! Making memories Instead of buying big game systems, big gifts or new cars, lots of clothes, we like to save our money to make memories. That might be a trip to the beach, a visit to a new city such as New Orleans, a new country, or a weekend in the mountains. Toys will be forgotten but our children will always have the memories of…
