Outfits for a Vacation in the Mountains

I shared my packing list for our week in North Carolina on a blog post a little while ago (read here) so I decided it would be fun to share my actual outfits. The advantage of going on vacation is that it gives some new and interesting backdrops for outfit pictures. I did forget my running shoes and my dress at home but probably wouldn’t have worn either so it worked out well. The weather started at about 70 degrees in the morning and went up to the mid 80s during the day. Most of our activities involved being in the outdoors. This was my outfit for visiting the Museum…

    Vacation: Expectations vs Reality

We recently got back from a week long vacation to the Great Smoky Moutains in North Carolina. This was somewhat of a last minute vacation with a 2 week “notice” to find an affordable and well located rental. While I usually share all the fun pictures and fun activities we participate in, today, I wanted to share some of the real life struggles of a mom going on vacation. We love traveling with the children but sometimes, I sure wished I could take a solo vacay to a deserted island! I have shared in the past about how some vacations traveling with a 2 year old can be more stress…

    Cherokee Bears Project

One of the things I remembered from our past visit to Cherokee, NC was the painted fiberglass bears throughout the town. Since we were without children that time, I knew my boys would enjoy being on the lookout for them on this visit. The bear project started in 2005 and showcases different artist within the Qualia boundary. Bears appear in many Cherokee folk tales and legends. For those who do not know, Cherokee is a town on the reservation of the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Nation. I will be sharing some of the places we visited in the area as well as the Great Smoky Mountains National Park which…

    July Favorites

July has gone by quickly! We have had some busy days and some quiet days, we have spent some time with friends and also alone together as a family and both were needed. Today, I am sharing my favorites for the month. #1 Sunflowers This is my 2nd year planting sunflowers and I have enjoyed seeing them as I drive up to my house. I occasionally cut one or two and bring them in. They bring sunshine and happiness indoors. We also went to a sunflower field to take some pictures and I cut a few to take home. Sunflowers remind me of my childhood and remind me of the…

    July Outfits (Part 2)

Well since I really like most of my outfits this month and not everyone follows me on Instagram, I decided to split my post in two since I had so much to share. I definitely had some winning piece such as my red Target dress so I wore it is several ways. At the time I wrote this post it was available online is small and medium in limited stock but it is worth checking if your store carries it. It is that good! Wow, I am looking a little tired in these pictures: the cute little 2 year has been waking me up most night and a little stress…

    July Outfits (Part 1)

The month of July has been a month of brights! I have also enjoyed my white shorts a lot and wonder how I survived without a pair last year: I continue to vary my outfits with wearing shorts, skirts and dresses. As I mentioned in another post, I really am happy with my Spring/Summer wardrobe which has been a combination of donating what I didn’t like anymore and add some new things. With a less strict budget and a couple gift cards, I have been able to find some budget friendly things to add and it has been fun shopping (online). Yellows Purple used to be my favorite and I…

    Packing for a Hiking Vacation

Our usual week long vacations destinations are to the beach while our bigger vacation take us abroad. We have occasionally gone to the mountains for a few days but we have never taken a week vacation in the mountains. Therefore, for this vacation I had to think differentlty. I had to pack items that would work on dirt trails, in water and maybe a cave visit. Being me though, I still will wear my statement earrings and will try to be fashionable. I decided to pack one dress but everything else can be mixed and matched for hikes or slightly streneous exercise. Shoes I am packing 4 pairs of shoes:…

    Sweetwater Creek State Park

Welcome back to another adventure and hike. This time we met some friends at Sweetwater Creek State Park in Lithia Springs. “A wooded trail follows the stream to the ruins of the New Manchester Manufacturing Company, a textile mill burned during the Civil War. Beyond the mill, the trail climbs rocky bluffs to provide views of the beautiful rapids below. Additional trails wind through fields and forest, showcasing ferns, magnolias, wild azaleas and hardwoods” (gastateparks.org). The park is just under an hour drive from my house but 20 min ride from my friends’ so we decided to meet there for a hike and a picnic. We really enjoyed this walk!…
